Description
The Kussmaul Auto Charge 1000 PP PLC is a microprocessor-controlled Pump Plus battery charging system with Parasitic Load Compensation (PLC), a built-in 3-amp Battery Saver, Auto Pump control capability, and an included remote bar graph display. Designed for fire apparatus, rescue vehicles, ambulances, and other emergency or specialty vehicles, the system is available in configurations for either a single or dual 12-volt battery bank.
Parasitic Load Compensation is designed for emergency vehicles that operate continuous accessory loads such as flashlights, gas detectors, computers, radios, and monitoring equipment. The system allows the vehicle's total parasitic load current to be entered into the charger so the absorption-stage transition point can be adjusted accordingly. This allows the batteries to transition properly to float voltage without continuous accessory loads causing extended charging cycles, helping prevent overcharging, overheating, and premature battery wear.
The built-in 3-amp Battery Saver automatically transfers compatible accessory loads from the vehicle battery to the Battery Saver power supply when AC shore power is connected. This allows the charger to replenish the batteries without simultaneously supplying the connected accessory loads.
An integrated pump output provides control capability for a compatible Kussmaul Auto Pump 12V. An AC/DC mode DIP switch allows the installer to determine when the compressor operates. In DC mode, the compressor can operate whenever low air system pressure is detected, including when the vehicle is disconnected from shore power. In AC mode, compressor operation is limited to periods when AC shore power is available.
Available configurations include the single-battery Pump Plus 1000 PLC and the dual-battery Pump Plus 2000 PLC. Both configurations provide 15 amps of battery charging output, a 3-amp Battery Saver, electronic battery voltage sensing without separate sense wires, selectable battery types, configurable Float or 3-Step charging, and an included remote bar graph display.
